Taylor, 31, has been the best cover-corner for the Steelers since he's been a starter on the team. Although he can't catch the ball to save his life, and sometimes struggles in zone coverage, he's far and above anything they have on the current roster.
Without Taylor, the Steelers would have had arguably one of the weakest and less-talented cornerback core in the entire NFL. They sill might be in the bottom five.
Taylor is in the top 10 in terms of man-coverage, is a good locker room guy, knows the system, and is a solid tackler. 2008 was Taylor's best year, along with a lot of other Steeler's defenders. Taylor faced Andre Johnson, Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne, and Plaxico Burress, and held all of them to mediocre days. Taylor often takes away the opponents top receiver, which is why we've seen William Gay and Bryant McFadden get thrown at so much.
The financial terms haven't been announced yet, and I'm very interested to seeing them, considering that the Steeler's cap situation isn't exactly ideal.
