I love poll questions. Especially when it comes to sports. ESPN.com is always full of polls for fans. Today I was looking through some of them when I came across this question: Who would you rather have on your team, Ben Roethlisberger or Michael Vick? The last time I saw the results it was 60% in favor of Mike Vick.
Now they didn't really put an explanation for the question. Is it supposed to be who do you like more or is it who is better. If it's who do you like more then that's fine, even though I don't know what that says about some of you who voted for Vick. Last time I checked Mike Vick was a convicted Felon who tortured and killed dogs. Last time I checked Vick, who is supposed to be on a no-tolerance basis, had a huge party this summer at which someone got shot.
Furthermore, the last time I check Ben Roethlisberger was never charged, arrested, or convicted of any crimes or wrong-doings. Last time I checked Roethlisberger was only accused of something. I think everyone has been accused of something in their life. I know Vick has "paid his dues to society", but why is Roethlisberger getting thrown under the bus?
If the question was meant to say who is a better quarterback, then it should have even been more lopsided, in favor of Big Ben. Michael Vick is not a better football player then Ben Roethlisberger. Michael Vick is certainly not a better quarterback then Ben Roethlisberger. The stats say so and so do their resumes. Vick is the better athlete but being a good athlete does not equal being a good quarterback.
Let's compare them as quarterbacks real quick.
Career stats: Completion percentage: Mike Vick 54% , Big Ben 63.3%
Yards per attempt: Mike Vick 6.7, Big Ben 8
Qb rating: Mike Vick 76.8, Big Ben 91.7
Touchdown percentage: Mike Vick 4.2 %, Big Ben 5.3
Winning percentage as a starting qb: Mike Vick 57%, Big Ben 69%
Super Bowl wins: Mike Vick 0, Big Ben 2
I'd like to add that I don't care about Vick's rushing numbers because a good quarterback only runs when he has to. Ben has pulled off some big runs in his career as seen here.
In the end I don't know what the reasoning is behind the morons that think Vick is better. I don't know if it's just a personal dislike for Ben, if they're just indeed morons, or if they just liked to use Vick on Madden. All I know is if you think Vick is better, you have no idea what you're talking about.

If you're talking career wise, of course Big Ben has had the more successful career at this point. But if the Vick we saw in Philly this year is the kind of Vick we're talking about for the rest of his career. The actually mentally focuses Vick who now has the work ethic to match the unprecedented Physical gifts, give me that guy. That's the MVP caliber player. Although Big Ben has always been above average he's never been elite
ReplyDeleteHis team just went 3-1 without him. Vick has never been on a team that good. Vick was on a team that went 2-10 without him and 3-1 in his return.
