Pitt falls in the new rankings

The AP and ESPN coaches poll were announced yesterday and Pitt fell to 4 in both polls. I understand the slide in ranking with Pitt coming off a tough loss to Notre Dame, but I don't get how Texas jumped ahead of Pitt! It's true that Texas upset an outstanding Kansas team and Pittsburgh lost, but here are the reasons I think the new poll is flat out wrong.

Pittsburgh is the number one team in the Big East conference with only 1 loss. That's right,  number one in the toughest conference in America. On top of that, they only have 2 losses total (Tennessee and Notre Dame). At this point in the season to only have 2 losses is a huge achievement. Let's take a look at some of the teams we've beat - UConn, Georgetown, Syracuse, Marquette, and TEXAS. Pitt beat Texas to win the 2K Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden in November! Texas has 3 losses coming from USC, UConn, and Pittsburgh. Texas has two losses to Big East teams. Pitt only has one and they play in the conference night in and night out.

I think the coaches and writers noticed that Texas is coming into their own. They've really hit their stride and started playing as a team these past few weeks, while Pitt has struggled. That said, when you break down our resume and theirs, I don't understand how people could say they're the better team. I know what happens in March is all that matters but it bothers me when we don't get the respect we deserve! Lets see how Jamie and his team react on Saturday vs Cincinnati. I'm predicting a big win!
