Former Steel Valley Student/Athlete Injured in Car Accident

It's come to my attention that a good friend and former school mate of mine (Steve Lasek) has been seriously injured in a car accident. Steve is a very bright young man that always did well in school and was a very good athlete.

Steve was a starting linebacker and back-up tight end throughout his days at Steel Valley High School. After high school, Steve went on to play rugby for the University of Pittsburgh, where he also studied  Mechanical Engineering.

Most of all, Steve is a great and very funny guy. Even though I wasn't always on good terms with some of his best friends, Steve never seemed to care and we would take time to bs about this and that. I always found him to be one of the nicest and interesting guys in my grade.

This begs the question as to why bad things happen to good people. It's a shame that someone as funny, nice, and cool as Steve  has to have something this awful happen to him and his family.

Although a tragedy, things like this makes me appreciate my life and everything that I take for granted. All of the things that I think are important don't seem as important when you hear stories like this.

I personally want to dedicate my blog, thoughts, and prayers to Steve and his family, and pray for them while they endure this tough time.

If you're more interested in helping Steve and his family out through this tough time, you can visit a group on facebook.com that is dedicated to him. Here's the info from the page and the link is at the bottom.

For those of you who don't know, Steve Lasek was in a terrible car accident last Friday and is in pretty bad shape. Please keep him in your thoughts and if you pray, say a few words for him. Hang in there Scub...**

...We would like to thank you for keeping Steve in your thoughts and prayers over the past few days. Unfortunately, it appears as though that alone will not be enough. In the coming days, weeks, and months Steve’s family will undoubtedly be faced with an overwhelming emotional and financial burden. While we are obviously limited in our abilities to help relieve the emotional stress his family is currently experiencing, it has occurred to us that we are most certainly in a position to help ease the financial hardship.

The fact is that caring for a loved one in the hospital, especially in a hospital on the opposite side of the country, is an expensive endeavor. The very least thing that we can do to help as friends, classmates, teammates, or neighbors is to reach into our pockets.

Over the next month or so we will be collecting money to send out to Steve’s parents. Any contribution, whether big or small, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and please continue to keep Steve in your thoughts and prayers.
