After an up and down season for the Pittsburgh Penguins we can now focus on their offseason. They have a lot of spots on the roster to fill and have to figure out which players they are going to resign. They already brought back Craig Adams, and I loved that deal. Today we're going to look at the Talbot situation.
Most Pens’ fans are worrying about if the Pens will resign fan-favorite Maxime Talbot. Of course many of you know that I’m not a huge Talbot fan. He’s a good fourth line player that has huge character upside but that’s it. Doesn’t really do anything particularly great. Last year he made 1.05 million. He can’t make anymore than that.
Reports are that Talbot will ask for around $1.7 million a year. If Talbot is able to get that money than props to him but it probably won’t be and better not be with the Penguins next year. That’s way too much money for a guy that scores a goal once a month.
I know a lot of yinz Pens’ fans love Talbot. Girls think he’s cute; he’s probably banged a lot of “fans” around the city, particularly in the Southside. He has a fun personality and yes he did that much overplayed car commercial. I know he scored those two goals in game 7 that helped the Pens win the Stanley Cup but that was more of a fluke than anything.
Talbot is a really good fourth-liner that plays a very gritty and admirable style of hockey. He can play the penalty-kill and can do work on both ends of the rink. However, he shouldn’t be making anywhere near 1.7 mil a year.
So if everything plays out like it should then Talbot will be with another team next year. Or maybe he'll show how good of a teammate he is and take a paycut.
