Of course I've caught a lot of criticism for my bashing of Hines Ward, arguably the most beloved Pittsburgh Steelers of all-time. Most of my little rant was based off of emotion and I was exaggerating with most of my posts, for entertainment purposes.
That being said, I really do feel like Ward can do no wrong, especially when you compare him to Ben Roethlisberger. When Roethlisberger was "accused" of sexual assault this city tore him apart. Fans wanted him traded, teammates threw him under the bus, and I even saw number 7 jerseys being burnt.
Now a DUI is not as bad as raping or sexually assaulting someone, but Big Ben didn't do any of that. He was accused by a drunken college student. Roethlisberger was not arrested for a crime. Ward was. Ward was arrested for a DUI. This is the second time this summer that Ward has been out late and has been stopped and questioned by cops.
Now anyone that knows me knows that I like to stay out all night and party. So I can't criticize Ward for doing that. However, Ward is 35 years old and a leader on the Pittsburgh Steelers, at least he calls himself that. Isn't he a little too old to be doing these kinds of things?
If there's one thing about Ward that is for sure is that he is a very immature and selfish person. He threw his quarterback, the best qb he's ever played with, under the bus on national television. Ward has held out of camp for more money, he's gone on "Dancing with the Stars" after a loss in the Super Bowl. To top it off he's had two run-ins with the law in a matter of two months.
Makes me think to myself, what if that were Ben Roethlisberger? What if Roethlisberger went on DWTS after he played mediocre in a losing effort in the Super Bowl? What if Roethlisberger threw a pep rally for himself? What if Roethlisberger had two run-ins with the law, including an actual arrest?
It's obvious that Ward can do no wrong and Ben can do know right.
Now of course, Ward has an explanation: Ward is claiming that even though he was cuffed for the offense, he wasn’t intoxicated. “From our preliminary investigation, we can tell you that we are confident that the facts will show that Hines was NOT impaired by alcohol while driving,” his rep Andrew Ree said in a statement. “Hines is deeply saddened by this incident and apologizes to his fans and the Steelers organization for this distraction.”
I expected that. Yes Hines Ward is human, yes I’ve made mistakes, but shouldn’t we hold Hines accountable for his actions? Maybe some community service, attend some AA meetings, something? If it were Ben you’d be calling for his head. But is Hines Ward, and he can do no wrong
Maybe if Ward can get the charges dropped he can throw himself another pep rally
What's selfish about going on DWTS after losing in the Super Bowl (how are those two things even related? they're not)? If he wasn't intoxicated, what would he need to be held accountable for? Why community service or AA?

so basically, you're wondering why people were more upset with ben allegedly raping a girl in a bar than they are at hines for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol? thats absurd. you're almost literally comparing apples to oranges.
