U.S. Women's team loses to Japn in World Cup Final

No you didn't come to the wrong blog, well on second thought maybe you did. Yes I watched the world cup final between USA and Japan. Yes it's women's soccer, I don't care, I'd rather watch women's soccer than NASCAR.

In fact women's soccer is the one women's sport in which I actually don't mind watching. I won't watch women's basketball, football, or hockey. Softball is alright, especially in those tight pants, mmmmmmm.

Anyways, like most of you, I was thoroughly disappointed in the loss to Japan by the U.S. women's team. Team USA had overcome so much to get to that point. Abby Wambach and Hope Solo had been brilliant.

USA is clearly more talented than Japan and much better looking, although that doesn't say much. Did you see those Japan players, good God they're ugly. Although the U.S. team has some manly looking players as well.

As for the game, the United States twice blew two late leads and then missed three penalty kicks in the shootout as Japan went on to upset the United States to win the World Cup. Enter sadness.

The United States choked. Let's be honest. Too many missed chances in the first 30 minutes of a game the US Women dominated. The wonderful comeback against Brazil will just be forgotten. Plenty may think I'm being negative, but just think about US sports fans, people don't remember the runner-ups or how they got there. Such a shame, but that's sports.

It is what it is, and this was a big choke job by the U.S. USA was playing a team its NEVER lost to (22-0-3) and had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 late in regulation and extra time and STILL lost.. They simply didn't close it out.. And Wambach's head may be a goal machine, but her feet need some work.

Furthmore, I'm not sure if this run helps or hurts soccer in America. I know so many people who refuse to give the sport a chance. Now, I am still learning the ins and outs of the game, and I think the MLS sucks, but when the game is played at the national level and over in Eurpope, I think it's one of the best sports in the world.

I just don't think it's ever gonna fully catch on here. It's too hard to figure out for some, too low scoring for others. It's not pretty and at times get be boring for most Americans. Then factor in women playing the sport, you are set up for failure.

I just hope some of "yinz" can give this sport a chance. Go watch the Euro leagues, the Champions League, etc... I think you will be surprised by how much the sport of soccer rocks.

As for our ladies, if any of yinz need a rub down or a hug let me know. I live in Munhall, PA. I'm especially talking to you Hope Solo. You did fantastic baby.
