I wanted to write something on Chris Rainey, the Pittsburgh Steelers 5th round pick. Rainey is a running back out of the University of Florida for those of you who were not aware. Rainey is insanely talented and very multiskilled at almost all aspects in football.
At Florida, Rainey scored touchdowns returning kickoffs, punts, blocking punts, running the ball, and catching the ball. Rainey was a kick/punt returner, running back, played on both sides of special teams, and started a few games as a slot receiver. Unreal.
Rainey was a 5th round pick mostly because he's never going to be an every down featured running back in the NFL. That is fine the NFL is not about the running game anymore anyways. The Steelers need to use Rainey just like the Gators did. Just put him on the field.
What I am hoping is that Rainey can become the Darren Sproles for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Carry the ball every once in a while, make big plays on special teams and be effective in the passing game. Rainey has the same make up as Sproles as far as size and speed go.
One red flag does come up when it comes to Rainey though, and that is the trouble he has gotten himself with his ex-girlfriend. Rainey was arrested in September 2010 for threatening and harassing his ex-girlfriend. One of the texts Rainey sent his ex said "Time to die bitch!".
"For that text, Rainey was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking, a third-degree felony. He would later plea bargain for a misdemeanor charge, and ordered to perform 10 hours of community service, pay $150 in costs and take an anger management/domestic violence evaluation. I sure as Hell hope that Rainey doesn't still have contact with that female anymore. Rainey is an NFL player for the Steelers now, he can bang pretty much whatever piece of ass in Pittsburgh that he wants. Please do not let some bitch ruin your potential.
Rainey also comes from a messed up background. Rainey's mother gave birth to him while she was in jail. Even crazier is the fact that Rainey was taken in by Maurkice Poucney's family when he was in high school. Small world huh?

Really good write up Mad Chad. I really hope that Rainey is able to have an impact on this time. If he even turns out to be half the player that Sproles is that would be great.
