15 Best Mob/Gangster Movies of All-Time

Yeah I know it's Shark Week, it's cool but excuse me if I'm not excited about it. For those of you that don't know, I'm a huge movie buff. My favorite genre of film is the crime/gangster genre. AMC is having it's "Mob Week" this week, showcasing a week full of the most popular and critically acclaimed mobster films of all-time.

I really did my list based on personal preference, but did take into account acting, story, dialogue, and originality. There are so many great ganster films so I'm sure no one will agree with my list but it's my blog and I wanted to do this. Feel free to post your lists at the bottom. I went with 15 films, here they are:

15. Snatch

Great cast lead be Benincio Del Torro, Brad Pitt, Jason Staham, and Vinnie Jones star in one of the coolest movies I've ever seen. Much like a Pulp Fiction, the movie centers around several criminals and have their stories intertwine, all over a diamond.

14. The Untouchables

Yes there is a lot of overrating and some scenes are overdone, but I honestly still find this movie entertaining and it's a good story to boot.

13. A Bronx Tale
If you've never seen this movie then I feel bad for you. Covers racial wars, natural honesty vs. infactuation, the Vietnam War,and the 1960 World Series. Great film.

12.Donnie Brasco
Johnny Depp and Al Pacino are great in a film about Depp(undercover FBI Agent) who becomes a part of Pacino's mob and begins to struggle between real life and mobster life. Great quote from the film: "When they send for you, you go in alive, you come out dead, and it's your best friend that does it."

11.Once Upon A Time in America
Really underrated movie starring James Woods and Robert DeNiro is about about friendship among thieves, telling the story of a group of Jewish kids in New York near the turn of the century who grow up to become powerful and ruthless mobsters. Best work by James Woods ever, well besides Casino. Movie is extremely long.

10. Carlito's Way
Any movie that has Sean Penn has a jewish cokehead lawyer with a Jew-Fro is movie gold. John Leguizamo as Benny from the Bronx is awesome. Al Pacino is his usual self.

9. Blow
Surely one of the best ever drug movies, depicting the fascinating story of George Jung, the man who established the American cocaine market in the 1970s. Johnny Depp is good but Pee Wee Herman was incredible. "I can't feel my face". Penelople Cruz also made me erect during this film. Great Soundtrack.

8. Scarface
Maybe just because I have no real reason to but this in the top 10, I guess it's popularity and entertainment value caused it to be. Probably one of the most quotable movies of all-time, people will never tire of this classic.

7. Casino
Scorcese, DeNiro, Pesci, this won't be the first time they appear on this list. Great observation of the mob and Las Vegas. Violence, drugs, Sharon Stone as a whore, and James Woods as a pimp. Yes please. I could watch this movie over and over.

6. Resovoir Dogs
Possibly the best dialogue ever written, with great acting all in a movie about a bank robbery that doesn't show the robbery. Great film that should have been nominated for a few Oscars. If you're a man and you don't like this film, you probably don't have a penis.

5. The Departed
Martin Scorcese, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Mark Walhberg. Based off of "Internal Affaris" Scorcese recaptured some old magic with this mob movie.  The Departed has flaws but it's entertainment value is a 10.

4. The Godfather Pt. II
I refuse to put all of the Godfather's together. Godfather part 1 was better than 2, and 3 sucked. Part 2 is still a great film in it's own right.

3. Pulp Fiction

Dialouge 10/10 again by Tarintino. Pulp Fiction is one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. The acting is great, the story is great, and the directing is great. Like Godfather II, and the two movies below it, it's not only one of the greatest movies of all-time, it's one of the greatest movies of all-time period.

2.The Godfather

Here comes the controversy, I don't have the Godfather at number one. Doesn't mean I don't think it's a good film, it's great. Acting is great, story is great, there's just one gangster movie I like and think is better.  Long live Abe Vigoda!

1.Goodfellas
From the soundtrack, to the cinematography, to the story, and the acting. I'm convinced Goodfellas is the greatest gangster film and greatest movie of all-time. Martin Scorcese at his best, DeNiro and Pesci at their best. I've watched Goodfellas over 500 times and I plan on watching it 500 more before I do. Most entertaining film I've ever seen.
