Stupid Yinzers:

Welcome to a new segment on my blog called "Stupid Things Yinzers Say".  Basically, I'm going to troll the message boards, facebook, twitter, etc to find stupid comments about certain parts of Pittsburgh sports that people tend to spout off. I like to call ignorant Pittsburgh sports fans "yinzers". At least that's my definition. 




So let's start if off. Marc-Andre Fleury is a popular Pittsburgh athlete to bash for the yinzers. Mostly because they do not understand the game of hockey very much. I do not go on Facebook that much but when I do, after a Pens' loss, Fleury takes a beating. The stupid comments come out to play. 





This was the original Facebook Status: 


"Once again our great offense and above average defense bail out our mediocre goalie....open your eyes ppl"- Steve Palyo-Facebook


As you would expect this status started a big argument which led to this gem. 


Jen Zywinski Metzinger ok, i normally wouldn't comment on your status but i gotta have my say this time... i agree with u, steve, about fleury. and before i go on let me say this... my husband is a goalie, i keep stats for his hockey team and we're both pretty well versed in the world of hockey. neither of us are fleury fans. he's just too inconsistent. yes, he may make the all star team (no big deal, no one plays hard in the game anyway, no one wants to risk getting injured) and yes, he may make some big saves but everyone seems to look past the huge pile of really bad goals he's let in. he's probably let in more 5-hole goals than the rest of the league combined. and yeah, he's won a cup and made it to the finals blah blah blah...the goalie isn't the only player that gets u there. he has a spectacular team in front of him, which is why they're winning w/o their star player and amidst all of the other injuries. the whole team rallies together to push through. if you're wondering my top 5... i'd say thomas, vokoun, bryzgalov, lundqvist and quick. fleury may be in the top 10, or 5 for some people, but only b/c of the team he plays for. ok, i'm done... just wanted to voice my opinion.


Jen and her husband, who is a  "goalie", are perfect example of yinzers, as is the guy who posted this status. If the Penguins lose and Marc-Andre Fleury plays, it's all his fault, Doesn't matter what else happened in 60 minutes of hockey, Fleury was the goalie, therefore if they lose it's his fault, and if they win they win in spite of him because he's on a good team. 


Jen claims that her husband knows everything about being a goalie because he plays in some sort of adult league. Now I have played and coached dek hockey, and I've even captained several teams, I do claim to know a lot about the sport, but my opinion is somewhat credited and respected. I've never heard of Jen's husband. Does he have a column of some sort? Or does he let his bitch-wife do all the talking for him. 


As for Fleury being a on a good team, he is. Fleury has had superstars around him, a great coach, and the Pens have a lot of depth. That being said they don't win the Stanley Cup in 08-09 without Fleury, the don't make the playoffs last year without Fleury, who was the team MVP and carried the Pens to the playoffs without Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. 


This year Fleury is in the top 10 in almost every significant goaltending statistic and is 3rd in the league in wins, once again without Crosby, and Malkin missed 7 games already. Fleury is arguably the most talented and complete goaltenders in the NHL. He's in the prime of his career. The Penguins would get rid of all of their players besides Crosby before they got rid of Fleury. 


Quit sounding stupid people. Jen you're husband sucks at hockey. I bet if I played against him I would score a hat-trick in the 1st period. Tell his ass to have another Iron City. What Jen forgot to mention in her post is that sometimes her husband gets angry and hits her in the mouth when she leaves the kitchen. 

Jen, her husband, and the go that posted this status are stupid yinzers that have no idea how to play the game of hockey. Fleury is an elite goalie in the prime of his career. Yet these stupid ass yinzers think Brent Johnson would do just as well in net as the full-time starter.
