Return for Ike Taylor Unlikely

I still have visions of Aaron Rodgers completing passes at will against the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. I have the same visions of Tom Brady and Drew Brees doing the same in the regular season. It's no secret that the Steeler's weakness on defense is their pass-defense.

It's also no secret that Ike Taylor is the only cornerback the Steelers had that isn't a bum. Bryant McFadden is slow and injury prone. He used to be good but isn't a quality starter anymore. William Gay is not a starting corner in the NFL. He's just not good enough. He sucks!

Taylor, to me, is one of the best cover-corners in the NFL, and has been since he's been in the league. He's had a few mediocre seasons but I'd say he's the most complete corner the Steelers have had since Rod Woodson.

Now, Taylor's contract is up, and as soon as the lockout ends he will be free to sign with any team in the NFL. It's now looking more likely that Taylor will not be a Steeler next year. Taylor was asked about the possibility of taking a "hometown" discount for the Steelers. This is what he had to say about that on the show "Jim Rome is Burning".

I need that market value," Taylor said Wednesday on ESPN’s Jim Rome is Burning. "I’ve been through so much, I feel so unappreciated, feel so underrated at my position, I feel like it’s my time to get my worth, in whatever city that’s in.

"I would love to (return to Pittsburgh), but they usually sign a player a year before (free agency), so we’ll see what happens."

That ladies and gentlemen is the words of a man that wants to move on. Fans need to understand that these "hometown discounts" are not reality. Taylor isn't from Pittsburgh. Taylor wants paid and has a certain number in mind. I can't hate on that. Taylor has been criticized a lot in Pittsburgh and I for one think he didn't deserve most of it. He can't catch, if he could he would have been to five Pro-Bowls.

Of course Taylor isn't worth 10 million a year, but the Steelers are kind of screwed either way. They can either overpay for Taylor, and run the possibility of not being able to resign LaMarr Woodley. Or they can let Taylor walk and have McFadden and Gay as their starting corners next year. Yikes, what's option C?

  2. You'll learn. If he goes, then it's the days of Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington all over again.

  3. so what? they at least made plays. Ike could not catch a cold if he stood outside naked in a blizzard. Ike has zero play making ability and its time to give someone else a chance. He is an average cover guy at BEST! and that was in his prime...you have got to let this go Chad along with IKE! If he came for 5 million...ok. But I want Woodley 100% and could care less about EVERY one of our secondary. TIME for the young kids to jump in and learn by FIRE> there were at least 5 rookies who were expected to do nothing last year that stepped in across the nfl and did the CB position well. How much worse can it be ...really? We need to develop a new secondary...and with our Defense it wont take much to shore up the DB spot.

  4. Dewayne Washington was an absolute nightmare.. His poor play made me, as a child, sob during that 02 playoff game against Tennessee.
