Hines Ward also speaks out against the new rules

Everybody’s favorite Pittsburgh Steeler, Hines Ward, is in the news again. After winning the "Mirror Ball trophy" on Dancing with the Stars, Ward has decided to join most of his fellow Steelers' teammates and talk about the new rules in the NFL regarding safety.

Ward seems to understand why the new rule changes were made by the NFL owners last week but doesn't seem to think that it will bring serious change.

This is what Ward said on WCNN in Atlanta (via SportsRadioInterviews.com)

"When you have two grown men traveling at 20 miles per hour on a head-on collision, guess what, something in your body is going to hurt. So regardless of what you do, it's still a physical ball game. But what are you going to do when a runner is continuing to try to run over a guy? Are you going to just wait until one guy can't tackle him before you go in there and assist somebody?"

Some have nicknamed the rule change the "Pittsburgh Steeler rule" because of the way the Steelers hit, including Ward, who has often been considered one of the "dirtiest" players in the game.

Said Ward:

"It's a violent sport. If you want to protect it, we need to play flag football."

Or maybe they should try ball room dancing?

Ward isn't the only Steeler to speak out against the new rules and changes, James Harrison and the Steelers' social media messiah, Ryan Clark have both spoken out against it. No wonder they call it the "Steeler rule". Now maybe when the refs and the NFL pay extra attention to the Steelers next year it won't come as a big surprise.

When you call the people that make the rules idiots, you're putting yourself and your team in a bad situation. Hines, Clark, and Harrison all need to shut the hell up.

  1. Your boy Ben put this team in bad situation for the last two offseason but you always defended him, now that Ward speaks out about a bad rule change you are upset about it. Last time I checked, they fined our players without them speaking out so why would they not do so again if we stayed quite this year. I like how they are speaking out because the rules are terrible and we are going to get fined regardless. Maybe you should support your team instead of trashing everyone who doesn't wear number 7! FYI: we made the super bowl after the worst offseason in history last year and this year has not been close to as bad!
