I for one thought that the Pirates' hitting would be their strong point. Not this year. Fact is the Pirates' pitching has been awesome. You could say that no other team in baseball is getting what the Pirates are from their starting rotation.
In Wednesday night's win over the New York Mets at the ever so popular Citi Field, it marked the 13th consective game in which a Pirates starter held an opponent to two or fewer earned runs. By the way, that's the longest streak in the major. One more and they will tie the 1968 Pirates. Three more and they'll tie the Major League record of 16!
Correia kept the Pirates in the game until their offense came alive during a five-run seventh inning in which five hits never left the infield. For the season, Correia is (8-4), has an E.R.A. of .340, and has 34 strikeouts. Not good enough to make the All-Star game, but very good for a starting pitcher on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fact is if the Pirates can get one more quality staring pitcher and their young offense can be a little more consistent, I would actually start to buy in on the Pirates.
