WWE: Christian Turns Heel

Last week at the end of Smackdown when Randy Orton just defended his title with an RKO against Sheamus, we witness the beginning of the much anticipated heel turn of Christian. He was guest referee of that match and instead of raising Randy Orton’s hand he took the title and smacked Orton across the head knocking him out.

The crowd was just kind of silent then, they didn’t know how to react. But when Christian decided to stand over Randy with the title raised there was a loud roar of boos.

The boos escalated this past Friday when Christian cut a promo declaring a full heel turn. He talked about how he didn’t need the fans and he wasn’t talking to them anymore. He then brought the heat magnet Michael Cole into the ring and declared he was only talking to Cole from now on.

Now that Christian is heel, he will get 1 final shot at Randy Orton’s title next Sunday at Capitol Punishment. I believe Christian will fall short next week and he won’t get another shot for a while. He may have to win the “Money in the Bank” PPV before he gets another shot since this will be his third.

But what does all of this mean for Smackdown and in general the WWE?

First off Christian was the number 2 face on Smackdown before his turn. Smackdown has way too many heels right now and not enough main event faces.

The draft was supposed to help Smackdown, not hurt it. It made Raw and Smackdown very unbalanced. As of right now Randy Orton is going to be in every main event feud even after he loses his title because of the lack of faces on Smackdown. But that’s okay in my opinion; I am a big fan of Orton as a face. The WWE Universe may be getting tired of Orton though sooner or later if there is no other face to contend with him.

There are a couple ways WWE can fix this. They can either turn a main event heel into a face, which I think will happen. They can somehow try to trade a face from Raw to Smackdown. Or they can push a mid card status face into a main event face.

First who can they turn from a heel to a face that can be a main event level face on Smackdown? I believe they can turn Sheamus. He is a former WWE Champion. He definitely has experience. I think he would work better as a face. He is can be comedic which will help him. He has that light skin tone also. It just seems a face gimmick would work better than his heel gimmick that he has right now. I think him turning is the most likely to happen and sooner rather than later.

They could also try to trade someone from Raw to Smackdown that would work as a big time face. There have been rumors of a Miz face turn ever since Wrestlemania. It would seem they want to turn Miz sooner rather than later. He is also funny which will work to his advantage. He is great on the microphone. He is a former WWE Champion so he has experience and he knows what it takes to be a champion. He is also the best media ambassador WWE has. It would seem him as a face would be better when he appears on late night talk shows and with his other endeavors. The face turn for the Miz would help him whenever he does his first movie with WWE studios. The Miz could use the gimmick that no one ever thought he would make it in the WWE and that he is the ultimate underdog or something like that. Most of all it would get The Miz away from John Cena’s shadow and on to his own show where he can make his own legacy.

Right now the Miz is feuding with Alex Riley. As the last match they could have a loser leaves Raw match. This could get Miz to Smackdown and it would also put Riley over big time with the crowd getting rid of one of most hated heels in WWE right now. It could also get a face Riley over to Smackdown but the Miz is more experienced and main event ready, where as Riley we are not sure yet.

Finally to fill the gap of a much needed main event face on Smackdown the creative team could push a mid card face into the main event scene on Smackdown. The question is who could they possibly push?

I have been lobbying for Daniel Bryan to be pushed for a long time and he is on a little winning streak. That seems the most logical choice.

Sin Cara is still too new and his still getting his feet wet on how to adapt to the WWE style. Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater just broke off from the corre this past week but they need to be established more first as credible faces. Gabriel definitely would be the better bet though.

Other than them there is Ezekiel Jackson but he seems more ready for an Intercontinental title run before he goes after the World Heavyweight Championship. Then there is always Kane too.

As you can see Smackdown as a whole, who am I kidding? WWE as a whole is really low on talent and depth right now. They need to fix that ASAP.

Where does all of this leave Christian? After he loses next Sunday to Randy Orton he will go back into a mid card battle for a while. He may possibly win the Smackdown money in the bank and capture his 2nd World Heavyweight Championship but that won’t be to down the road.

As they do too much, the WWE creative team has dropped the ball again; Christian should have never turned face this soon. They should have waited a while till they got the rosters straightened out before turning him. But right now Randy Orton is the only main event face on Smackdown. As much as I love him, that is a problem.
