It seems like every year people doubt and over-criticize Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger, who didn't play his best last week, had a great stat line going 26/39, 361 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT.
Big Ben was under pressure for a lot of the game but did a great job of eluding pass-rushers with his feet and strength. Roethlisberger was sacked just twice in the game, and one was an early whistle when Big Ben threw a pass while a defender had him in his grasp.
Roethlisberger, who started the season of poorly, has thrown 9 touchdowns and just 1 pick in his last three games.
Roethlisberger is on pace for 28 touchdowns, and around 4,400 yards passing, and is now having a Pro-Bowl caliber season. It sickens me the lack of respect Roethlisberger gets both nationally and locally by football fans. Every year Roethlisberger finds ways to improve his game, plays behind a mediocre offensive line, and finds a way to win and put up elite stats.
If you take a look around the league at all the inconsistency and mediocrity of the play by qbs for NFL teams, you begin to appreciate what the Steelers have in Roethlisberger. At this point only Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have illegitimate cases of being called better quarterbacks.
Who else would you rather have? Philip Rivers? That's laughable to me. Rivers has been surrounded by Super Bowl caliber teams and talent in San Diego Rivers has more career interceptions than touchdowns in the playoffs and this year has 2 more picks than touchdowns. Overrated.
How about Michael Vick? You mean the $100 million qb who has his team 2-4, leads the league in fumbles, and has 9 tds and 8 interceptions.
Roethlisberger is elite and he has been. Two Super Bowls, Pro Bowl, rookie of the year, and he's a winner. Roethlisberger's stats are also just as good as any qb ever in their first seven seasons.
What's even more impressive is how Big Ben does it. He gets hit more than any other qb, plays behind an atrocious offensive line, plays in bad weather, and continues to thrive. Is there another qb tougher than him right now? I don't think so.
