Bring Pedro Up!
The Pittsburgh Pirates are still in first place and it's almost August. The Pirates still don't have a power bat and it's almost the trade deadline. Will the Pirates make a deal, or are they all talk? The trade deadline is still about a week a way so we might not find out until then.
In the mean time they could get some extra power that they've been looking for by simply bringing up a player that they already have, in Pedro Alvarez.
Why in the hell hasn't Alvarez been recalled yet? He's no sure thing, but he's a better bet at 3B than Brandon Wood or Chase d'Arnaud. Alvarez has POWER. The Pirates don't. Common sense, anyone?
Alvarez continues to hit for the Indianapolis Indians - he went 2-for-4 with a homer in Saturday's game against Rochester, giving him a .350 average with a .444 on-base percentage and .550 slugging in 60 at bats at Class AAA.
I know it's only AAA ball, but Alvarez still adds something to the lineup that the Pirates need and do not have. Again, it's Common Sense!Yes Alvarez might struggle against certain pitches and can't pull the ball, yada yada, yada. Bring his ass up!
Are the Pirates really going to go after Hunter Pence? Are they really going to pay one player $25 mil for the next two seasons? Are they going to give up to or three key prospects to a division rival?
Maybe the Pirates can get a rent-a-player in Carlos Pena, who would only cost them $4 million and not nearly as much in return.I expect the Pirates to make a trade but nothing that's going to rock the baseball world.
In the meantime, the offense still needs a boost, which is why the Pirates need Alvarez to come up now. What's the worst that can happen?

I think the staff at Indy is helping Pedro fine tune his swing, which has been awkward this year. When Pedro does get the call, I see him doing light years better than his 2 homers & ten RBI in 125 at-bats. However, you really don't want Hunter Pence? Yeah, he's a pretty penny but he is worth it. Hunter plays great right field defense, solid hitter with some power, & a good kid. He would thrive there!
