Steelers Re-Up the Offensive Line With Mike Adams/Decastro Pics

I am still in shock by the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 NFL draft. I never in a million years thought that the Steelers would have been able to draft five star offensive guard David Decastro without trading up. I also did not think the Steelers would have drafted two offensive lineman with their first two picks in the draft. They did that by tacking Ohio State offensive tackle Mike Adams in the second round.

The Steelers had neglected their offensive line long enough and have finally made a real honest attempt to upgrade the talent on the weakest unit on the team. Now with the drafting of Adams and Decastro, the Steelers will actually have a offensive line that is at the very worst, average.

Decastro should be a slam-dunk home run at guard.Adams on the other hand is far from a guarantee. Adams has a troubled past, which includes failing a drug test a few months ago. I for one do not care about Adams smoking weed. If you think 90% of the league doesn't do some sort of drug than you're kidding yourself. The thing about him failing his drug test that concerns me is that he knew about the test months prior to taking it. How dumb can you be? Borrow someones piss or something, seriously I'm sure someone would have helped you out.....

I digress. Adams is going to get high, hell as long as he helps keep Ben Roethlisberger upright I'll buy his weed for him. (If the authorities are reading this that was a joke). Adams would have been a first round pick had he not been in trouble before, but once you're labeled with character issues your stock in the draft will automatically plummet.

Now these picks do not guarantee anything for next year or the future. Adams and/or Decastro could turn out to be a bust (Decastro not likely) or they could get injured, but for now on paper the line is going to be drastically improved.

With the drafting of Adams, the Steelers will look to finally move Willie Colon to guard, assuming that he won't end up on the I.R. for the third straight season. Colon, who when healthy is a solid tackle, has the attributes to be a Pro Bowl guard in the NFL with his strength and athleticism.

The projected offensive line will look like this:

LT: Mike Adams
LG: Willie Colon
C: Maurkice Pouncey
RG: David Decastro
RT: Marcus Gilbert

That's really solid assuming a few things:

Willie Colon needs to be healthy and adjust quickly to playing left guard as opposed to right tackle. Colon should be a better guard than tackle considering his skill set and short T-Rex arms but there's no guarantee with that. Also have to hope Colon can stay healthy.

The Steelers could also go in another direction and keep Colon at guard, moving Gilbert to left tackle, and starting Ramon Foster at guard. I would not be a fan of this. The best five lineman need to be playing and that means Foster needs to grab some pine.

Also, the Steelers absolutely have to cut Jonathan Scott. Scott sucks. That's my analysis on him. He should have to pay the Steelers to be on the damn team.

Will Adams be ready? Can he pick up the playbook and adjust to the NFL soon enough to protect Roethlisberger's blindside? Let's hope so.

With the unknown aside, the Steelers have done a great job with the draft grabbing Adams and Decastro and should have the team's best offensive line since 2005.
