Big Ben to restructure his contract per Ed Bouchette

Here is what Ed Bouchette is reporting right now:

"The Steelers are working with agents to restructure some of their veteran players' contracts as they move to get under the NFL's salary cap as required by March 12.

Among those they will restructure are Ben Roethlisberger and Lawrence Timmons, and both could be done before the end of this week. "

Everyone has been saying how great of a guy Tom Brady is for his new contract and how it's going to save the Patriots a lot of money towards the salary cap. Yes he's freaking captain America in the flesh. Or maybe it's just smart business. Brady's no hero, his guaranteed money just double in bonuses. Brady is getting a $30 million signing bonus upfront, with $57 million guaranteed regardless of injuries during a 5 year span. Again that's a hell of a contract stipulation, sure Brady helps his team but he still helped his self. He's no hero, just really good at business.

Ben Roethlisberger is going to restructure his contract as well. Should we praise him as well? No, of course not. Roethlisberger's no dummy he wants to win and get paid at the same time. He'll gladly take his money the same as way as Brady in guaranteed bonuses. Roethlisberger needs a new contract, signing him to a new 5-year deal would keep him until he's 36. I think that's fair. I would also make that around $50 million.

Roethlisberger still has three years left on his current deal but the Steelers obviously need to change his contract, again, to help the cap situation. You might as well kill two birds with one stone. Roethlisberger is the Steeler's franchise. Lock him up for the rest of his career. I can't see him playing past 36, five more years is perfect for the Steelers and Roethlsiberger. If he's still healthy at age 36 then you can bring him back again but it's highly unlikely considering his history and his style of play.

Fans won't be happy no matter what happens with Ben. I think most of them would like to see him leave. Be careful what you wish for. Roethlisberger is the greatest quarterback in Steeler's history. He should play his whole career here. Get this done.

In addition to Roethlisberger, Lawrence Timmons and Antonio Brown are also going to have their contacts restructured. I think the Steelers should and will cut James Harrison and Willie Colon. All of this will drastically help the cap. Look for them to restructure Heath Miller's contract as well.

All Hail Ben! Kidding.
