The Pittsburgh Penguins are entering Memorial Day Weekend leading
all teams in playoff scoring. The Penguins had 25 goals while beating the New
York Islanders in six games during Round One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and
have amassed 16 more thus far against the Ottawa Senators, seven of which came
Wednesday night.
Pittsburgh is averaging 4.1 goals a game right now. Some
might think that this should be happening, considering the production is coming
from a team with names like Crosby, Malkin, and Iginla but some need to
consider guys like Pascal Dupuis are currently tied with players like Sidney
Crosby to lead the league in playoff goals(tied at 7). Pittsburgh sits second,
third, fourth, and fifth in playoff points- Crosby is second with 14, tied with
Malkin in third, Kris Letang is fourth with 13, and Jarome Iginla is fifth with
12.
That is impressive coming from one team, and to be quite frank I still don’t even think that they have played to their full potential. At times the Pens have almost looked zoned out, and very clearly lazy in their passing (no look passes-NOT working).

The third period of Wednesday’s game was the best showing of
the Pens star power- they played intelligent hockey, took every shot they could
on the net instead of waiting for the “perfect” chance, and even got a little
creative when they needed to. If they could figure out a way to cut down on the
stupid turnovers, they could be looking at a very strong finish to a very short
year.
