J Mac looked sharp picking up his 3rd Win |
Andrew McCutchen homered twice and Rod Barajas added a two-run homer propelling the Bucs to a 5-3 win in Washington. James McDonald pitched 5 hitless innings before allowing 3 runs in the 6th but was able to pick up his 3rd victory of the season. Mcdonald struck out 11 batters including nine of the first twelve he faced.
The Hammer shut the door in the 9th as the Pirates improved to 18-20 on the season. McCutchen finished 2-4 with two solo shots and Rod Barajas continues to swing a hot bat going 3-4 with the homer and 2 Rbis.
The Pirates struck first on a McCutchen solo home run in the top of the 1st. Barajas put the Bucs up 3-0 in the 4th with a 2 run homer off of Nats starter Jordan Zimmerman. Cutch would hit his second homer of the game in the 6th giving the Bucs a 4-0 lead. Mcdonald, who coasted through the first five innings, ran into some trouble in the bottom of 6th.
After allowing back to back doubles to open the inning, Mcdonald came one out away from keeping the Nats scoreless before allowing a two run single to Ryan Zimmerman. Adam Laroche tripled the next at bat to edge the Nats closer at 4-3. Tony Watson relieved Mcdonald and forced Bryce Harper to pop out to end the inning and conserve the lead.
The Bucs added a run in the 7th on a Neil Walker RBI groundout scoring Josh Harrison, who doubled to lead off the inning. With the score 5-3, Juan Cruz and Jason Grilli each pitched a scoreless inning before handing the reigns over to Hanrahan. After allowing two batters to reach base in the 9th, The Hammer retired the last two batters to record his 8th save on the season.
McCutchen's two home runs now give him 5 on the season after going homerless for his first 25 games. Rod Barajas may be the hottest hitting Bucco at the moment, as his 3 hit night makes him 9-17 with 4 homers and 6 Rbis in his last 5 games. James Mcdonald looked like an ace for most of his start tonight, and his 11 strikeouts give him 36 strikeouts in his last 4 games.
