The Penguins finalized their roster for the start of the season. Here's a list of moves they made.The roster has to be finalized
The Pens sent defenseman Simon Depres to his junior team the Saint John's Sea Dogs. Depres was a plus-3 for the Pens in pre-season. I think out of him, Ben Lovejoy, and Derek Engelland, Depres is the better player. They probably didn't think that any value gained by keeping Depres for nine games outweighed the risk of losing Lovejoy or Engelland on waivers.
Casey Pierro-Zabotel and defenseman Alex Grant were officially placed on waivers.
Ryan Craig and Andrew Hutchinson were placed on waivers Tuesday afternoon. Both have cleared and will be assigned to the Pens' AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Pens also named the captains for the upcoming season. Sidney Crosby will continue to serve as the team's captain and Evgeni Malkin will again be an alternate captain. Joining them will be Brooks Orpik and Joudan Staal, who will switch off wearing the "A" for home and away games.
