Some think Pouncey’s injury could be a huge factor: But I have faith
Last Sunday, the Steelers rookie All-Pro center, Maukrice Pouncey left the field early in the first quarter, and failed to return. On Thursday, it was released that he had a “broken bone” in his left ankle.
Now I’m not saying that Pouncey’s injury will be the ultimate deciding factor for who wins this game, but there are a couple of things that I am highly concerned about. If you remember, there were two fumbled snaps last week when back-up center, Doug Legursky came into the game. The first one of course is questionable to whether or not it was his fault, or Ben’s fault. The second one however was clearly a bad snap by Legursky. Not to mention the fact that it was on our own goal line. Fumbled snaps on the goal line during post-season games are something that no team can afford.
Another factor that worries me is Green Bay’s defensive tackle, BJ Raji. Raji may be the best player in the Packers front seven. (And yes that includes Clay Matthews) Raji started in all 16 games this season, and totaled 39 tackles, and 6.5 sacks. He’s actually quite similar to Haloti Ngata. I wouldn’t have been as worried about him if Pouncey were healthy, but with a back-up center in the game, who normally would only receive “six” reps with the starters during practice, you have to be a bit concerned.
Last week, Rashard Mendenhall ran for nearly 130 yards against a defense that has proven to be one of the leagues best. Who was at center? Doug Legursky. Of course there still is a small chance that Pouncey could play. He’s listed as “highly doubtful”, not out. Also, the game is still a little over a week away. Anything can happen in a week.
Regardless of whether Pouncey plays or not, I still have confidence in Doug Legursky. He is more than capable of fulfilling the spot, and he has the best team in the league around him for support…
