Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas has won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the NHL postseason with a spectacular run to a Stanely Cup Championship. If you watched him play then I'm sure you're in awe like I am. Wow. Just wow is all I have to say about Thomas.
The 37-year-old Thomas held the Vancouver Canucks to eight goals in seven finals games, posting his second shutout of the series in Boston's 4-0 victory in Game 7 on Wednesday night.Thomas shut out the Canucks in Game 4 while winning all three finals games in Boston.
Thomas is probably also going to win the Vezina Trophy, which is given to the best goalie of the year. Thomas set a modern record with a .938 save percentage, passing Dominik Hasek, who I find him to be very similar to.
Here some other awesome facts and records that Thomas set during these playoffs:
- At 37, Thomas is the oldest Conn Smythe winner in NHL history
- Thomas was the Bruins' only goaltender during their Stanley Cup-winning run, finishing the playoffs with a 16-9 record, 1.98 goals-against average, .940 save percentage and four shutouts.
- set NHL record for most saves in one playoff year (798)
- became the first goaltender in NHL history to post a shutout on the road in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final
- posted a 1.15 goals-against average in the Stanley Cup Final, the lowest in the modern era among goaltenders with at least five appearances posted the first shutout by a Bruins goaltender in the Stanley Cup Final since May 18, 1978, when Gerry Cheevers made 16 saves to blank Montreal 4-0 in Game 3 at Boston Garden (Game 3)
I also want to say that I'm happy for Thomas. He's an older player, never really had anything giving to him, and most of all he's American. lol Thomas was just gave an all-time great performance and this was a goalie that the Bruins were thinking about trading a few years ago. Thomas is an American hero right now. Suck it Vancouver.
