Pittsburgh Steelers vs Seattle Seahawks Preview
Last week the Baltimore Ravens apparently defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the most important game of all-time. Not really, for the Ravens it was. The Ravens needed that victory and wanted it more. They prepared better, coached better, and played better. The way they executed their plays and beat up the Steelers was actually impressive.
Now the Steelers and Ravens have to move on. I'm sure Baltimore did some celebrating but it's week two now. The Steelers season isn't a disaster....yet.
The Steelers did look old so it's not like Warren Sapp was wrong. Sapp had every right to call out the Steelers, it' not like he was the only one.
The Steelers got blown off the ball on offense and defense.
Seattle does not have the caliber of players the Ravens do. So I don't want to hear any more excuses this week from the Steelers.
Personally I think the Steelers will regret bring Aaron Smith and Casey Hampton back. Both guys are passed their prime and both guys make way too much money. Smith and Hampton should either take a paycut or be cut.
I would like to see more Ziggy Hood and more Cameron Heyward. Probably not going to happen.
Seattle doesn't have many explosive players this week but I'm sure whatever passes Seahawk's qb Tavaris Jackson is able to come up with will be completed on William Gay and/or Bryant McFadden.
Seattle's offensive line isn't that great. The Steelers need to show dominance against a weaker opponent and that starts at the line of scrimmage.
Seattle's run defense was very good against the 49ers last week only allowing 2.7 yards per carry. This concerns me because offensive coordinator Bruce Arians does not do a good job of disguising his play call. When the Steelers are going to pass they go to a 4-5 wide receiver set. When they are going to run they have 2-3 tight ends on the field. No need for SPYGATE!
I expect Ben Roethlisberger, who will be making his 100th start this Sunday, to play much better. The last time Roethlisberger threw three interceptions was in 2008 against the Indianapolis Colts. The next week he completed 31 of 41 passes, for 308 yards, and had a qb rating of 96.
I expect him to put on a show for the fans at Heinz Field as he has a chance to become the 4th fastest qb to win 70 games.
Seattle's starting qb, Tavaris Jackson is not a NFL caliber starting qb. His numbers are dreadful. For his career he has 11 more turnovers than touchdowns and has completed less than 60% of his passes. He's also just 10-10 as a starter.
The Steelers need to keep him in the pocket and let him throw. He can not, should not, and will not beat you with his arm.
Super Bowl XL star referee Bill Leavy will be in the house at Heinz Field this Sunday. Why, I don't know. It makes zero sense for Leavy to call this game. What's he supposed to do make up for Seattle from a Super Bowl that happened 6 years ago?
Having Leavy ref this game is like something out of the WWE. A long awaited rematch with a special guest referee. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.
Roethlisberger has also said that the Steelers are going to use the no-huddle more. I've heard that one before. Why announce it? Are you just telling us stuff to make us happy? Why let the other team no?
Right now the Steelers are 14.5 point favorites. I really doubt they will cover. Seattle will play hard and could keep it close. That's not I want or should see. The Steelers are the superior team and need to show dominance. If they don't this season is going to start feeling like 2009 and 2006, both years they missed the playoffs.
Tavrais Jackson sucks, don't let him beat you.
