Recapping last night’s Pens game is a little useless. First off, we all know by now what happened. I was there, so by the time I got home, staying up to recap wasn’t on my to-do list. So, a few game notes and a preview of things to come this week will suffice.
Jordan Staal was hungry like a fat guy who found cake in the conference room last night. I’ve never been to a game where a hat trick was scored and I had hoped last night would be it. The Pens were up 4-1 over the Devils in the final minutes of the game. Johan Hedberg wasn’t pulled to give Staalsy an opportunity to bank a freebee for number three of the evening. Congratulations to Staalsy though on scoring his 100th career goal in the NHL!
Saw my first live James Neal goal of the year. Of course, Phil Kessel had to be stingy and pace Neal, also scoring last night for the Leafs. They are tied for first in goals with 8 each.

Chris Kunitz scored the game winning goal after Patrick Elias tied the game with a short handed goal. Elias’s goal was the definition of irony. Former Penguin Petr Sykora was in the box serving a four minute high sticking penalty for Elias. *Insert keyboard mashing* The tied game didn’t last long. Koon responded with a one timer from a nice pass from Kris Letang from the blue line. Yet another Pens power play goal.
Fantastic game. I was a little disappointed that the Pens didn’t pay some sort of tribute to Sykora like they did Hal Gill the other night. Syks was also a part of the cup winning team and was easily the best winger Evgeni Malkin has had in his NHL career. He played some outstanding hockey with Sykora.
Since everyone else is writing about the Pens fans this season, I may as well jump on board because my brother and I spent a large chunk of the game wanting to cut a bitch in the stands around us.
Here is a summary of my experience:
I can recite the entire NHL Rule Book because the girl next to me was teaching her clueless friend what the hell hockey is. Her friend looked real pretty though in her glittery Pens shirt and she now at least knows who Kris Letang is, if she learned nothing else last night.
I can tell you about every single game the girl behind me has ever been to in her entire life. Meeting Kasparaitis was the best moment of her life and she hates Ian Moran with every fiber of her being. I give her creds though because she successfully twice in the game got the entire arena chanting “Let’s Go Pens.”
The guy two rows behind me spent half of the game saying “Let’s go Pens n’at. Haha. I’m a yinzer.” The other half was spent trying to start the wave. His biggest attempt came as Elias put the puck behind Fleury. Eat a dick. Ban the wave. I didn’t pay $100 to see the people in front of me stand every 10 seconds over and over and over.
The lady in front of me was playing Words with Friends. *Facepalm* It’s okay though. She was a part of the mass exodus of the game with 8 minutes left on the clock. Wouldn’t you all have felt like assholes had you missed Staal rack up a third goal? At least you got to keep your hat regardless of that feat occurring or not. However, my row all stayed and we made the best of it: Leg room. Feet up for 8 minutes!
Hope you bitches all had fun beating the traffic. I made it home in fifteen minutes…about ten minutes less than it took me to actually get to the game.
Pens have two much needed and deserved days off to rest up for our first game of the season against the Islanders. I understand the bad blood here due to the absolute joke of a game back in February, however, the Isles suck monkey cock. They aren’t worth exerting any sort of effort into hating. Their existence in the NHL is punishment enough for them as they rot in their decomposing arena.
Also, in new news, it appears Tyler Kennedy’s concussion may have been the result of a hit by the Sabres’ Tyler Myers…the same guy who fell on Geno’s knee on February 4 of last season. Check out this gif courtesy of Mike Colligan from Hockey Writers.
