The Pittsburgh Penguins found themselves down 3-1 after the first period Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche. The Pens would go on to score 5 unanswered goals, including 4 in the 3rd period to win the game 6-3.
The Pens have this ability to never be out of a game. This all starts with the system and team that Ray Shero and Dan Bylsma have put in place. The Pens have the talent, speed, and character to always be able to turn things around.
Marc-Andre Fleury did allow 3 goals in one period last night. On Facebook, Twitter, and in every yinzer's home, Fleury bashers united.
Fleury's version of a bad game is giving up 3 goals. After all, he hasn't given up more than 3 goals in a game all season. Remember, he carried the Pens on his back to the playoffs last year without two of the best and highest paid players in the NHL. Fleury is a top 5 goalie and is in the prime of his career.
For those of you who do not understand this, please learn about the game of hockey. Study, do research, talk to those of us that do before you make yourself sound stupid.
And if you're just a hater, then keep on hating. That's what haters do.
There's a nice rant for you.
Evgeni Malkin looked like a superstar against Colorado. He damn near scored on the first shot of the game, registered 2 points, inclduing this sick-nasty goal.
Malkin now has 14 points in 11 games. That's more like it. Malkin is now averaging 1.2 ppg which is around where he should be. If Malkin can stay healthy, anything less than 95 points this year would be a disappointment.
Speaking of disappointments, Paul Martin, who makes $5 million a year, has been more than disappointing this year. He's been dreadful. Last night he got undressed by Davi Jones. For the season Marin is a -11, that means that Martin is being paid $500k per minus this season.
Hopefully Martin can turn it around. Perhaps when his defensive partner Zbynek Michalek returns those two will live up to their contracts.
The role players for this team have been awesome. I'm talking about Craig Adams, Aaron Asham, Richard Park, and Pascal Dupuis. All of those guys could have left for more money. They wanted to win a Stanley Cup. They know their roles and play it well. Dupuis > Talbot.
James Neal is scoring goals left and right. He and Phil Kessel are in a great race for the Rocket Richard Trophy right now. The only thing that scares me is the kind of contract Neal's agent is going to ask for.
Jordan Staal continues to be a force. Staal has six goals and eight points in his last seven games. Staal is doing a good job of protecting the puck and playing his game, which is played down low and on the boards. Staal is on pace for over 40 goals. I think he gets 30 this year and finishes as a Selke finalist.
Kris Letang had a awesome goal as well last night and is carrying this blue-line on his back, playing around 27 minutes a game. I just hope he doesn't get burned out.
Lastly, I have no idea when Sidney Crosby is coming back. The Pens have two away games before they return back to the Consol Energy Center next Monday against the New York Islanders. That's my new guess.
