Mark Letestu was just traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 4th round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Letestu was very good as a rookie last year for the Pens, playing in 64 games he tallied 14 goals and 13 assists.
Letestu has been, well bad this year, registering just 1 point and zero goals in 11 games played.
This trade works out for both teams. The Pens clear up a roster spot and over $600,000 in salary-cap space and the Blue-Jackets get a young center who has showed some NHL promise. The Blue Jackets are the worst team in the NHL this year and are lacking young talented players and NHL depth.
Of course this move is making everyone go crazy over #CrosbyWatch aka the return of Sidney Crosby. Crosby's return is no doubt very close but I really do not think it will be this coming Friday against the Dallas Stars. Crosby is a very superstitious player and the fact that he was injured on 1/1/11 will most likely not want him to return on the date of 11/11/11. Just saying.
Most likely this trade was done for a bunch of reasons. The Penguins needed the roster spot to bring back not just Crosby, but forward Tyler Kennedy who has missed the past few weeks with a concussion. So everyone that is going to the game Friday thinking they're going to see a return of a Pens' player they will, it just might not be who they thought it was going to be.
The Letestu trade was not the only move made by GM Ray Shero this week as he and the Pens also sent Dustin Jeffrey and Steve MacIntyre to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment.
With both of them remaining on Pittsburgh’s 23-man active roster and will be paid their NHL salary during their conditioning assignment.
My guess is that Kennedy will return this Friday night against the Stars and Crosby will return on November 15th against the Colorado Avalanche.
The Pens have one
