Ben Roethlisberger: A True Role Model
So despite the off-season being in full effect the Pittsburgh Steelers news hasn't been exactly slow...No, that's a lie it has been extremely slow.
The biggest story of the week was Big Ben Roethlisberger graduating from college. Roethlisberger earned his degree after being removed from school for almost eight years. Props to Ben for going back to school and finishing his degree. Sure it's for education and he's probably never going to use his degree but it's the fact that a man who pretty much has everything you would ever need in life still looking for ways to improve himself.
Roethlisberger finishing school is a huge precedent for future professional athletes. Hell, there's players on the Steelers(Mike Wallace) who can't even spell education.
Despite Roethlisbeger's nasty public image after two sexual assault accusations, Roethlisberger and his people have done a tremendous job of turning it around. Roethlisberger has been damn near perfect since 2009. He got married to a hot Pittsburgh girl, he's taken his team to the Super Bowl, played through multiple injuries, and now this. Not to mention the number of charitable work and donations he's done around the city of Pittsburgh and the country.
My observation is that Roethlisberger just matured and maybe wasn't that bad of a guy in the first place. Sure people have stories about him that paint him as a big douche bag, but for every bad story about Big Ben, I'll raise you a bad story about Jerome Bettis, Charlie Batch, and Hines Ward, all of whom are considered "great role models". For those that do not know or choose not to know, both Batch and Bettis were accused of rape.
Fact is Roethlisberger does everything he can to improve his life, his image, his play, and his team. Call me a Ben "fanboy" all you want but the facts are the facts. Roethlisberger will be a Hall of Fame quarterback with multiple Super Bowls and other individual accolades. On top of that he will have turned around his life for the positive and set a great model for future quarterbacks and professional athletes. Props to Ben. What a guy!
