Pens beat Montreal 7-6 in OT
What a F*cking game that was last night. The Pens pulled a rabbit out of their ass by beating the Montreal Canadiens in overtime by a score of 7-6. This might have been the least confident most Pens fans were going into a game this year. It was a perfect storm for the Canadiens. They were at home, the Pens were facing former head coach Michelle Therrien, no Evgeni Malkin, and for some reason Dany Bylsma decided to start Tomas Vokoun.
I for one didn't think the Pens were going to win. Now on top of that if you would have told me that the Pens would have given up six goals under those circumstances and still won I would have laughed in your face. But that's what happened. Last night's game was a total mind f*ck.
13 total goals scored between the two teams. I'm sure Therrien was real joyful after the game. The Pens fought and clawed to a overtime victory. Brandon Sutter scored the game-winner in OT on a sick goal. He also scored another goal in the game while being a +2, with 7 shots on goal, and 2 blocked shots. Great game by him.
Sidney Crosby was amazing as usual. Crosby had three points again, and is now in total control of the scoring lead in the NHL with 34 points. Chris Kunitz continues to play amazing as well totaling 3 points as well. Kunitz is now tied for third with Thomas Vanek of the Buffalo Sabers in the NHL scoring leaders. Awesome to see Kunitz and Crosby playing this well.
Kris Letang had a roller coaster night. Letang had four points last night, offensively he was brilliant. His creativity great and his passing was brilliant. On the other hand Letang was brutally bad on the defensive side, it seemed like he and his partner who was equally bad defensively, Brooks Orpik, were on the ice for every goal against.
The Pens have now given up at least 4 goals in three straight games. For the year they're in the top 10 in goals allowed. The defense is playing really poorly, allowing opponents to own the front of the net.
Tomas Vokoun continued to struggle last night. He gave up 6 goals. He shouldn't have started the game at all. Reports were that Fleury was pissed for not starting. I think everyone else was pissed as well. Fleury loves playing in Montreal and has been playing really well lately. Vokoun has given up 22 goals in his last five starts. Yikes.
Tyler Kennedy played or at least that's what the box score says. He took two penalties and was a -3 with no points. Just awful. Trade him for parking at Consol.
Overall though a win is a win. Matt Cooke scored two goals and that's F*cking awesome. Pens got Tampa Bay tomorrow night at Consol. Evgeni Malkin looks like he's going to get cleared to play.
Lets go Pens!
