Byrd....Morton Shine

Yesterday, I talked about how it's time to give Neil Huntington and the Pittsburgh Pirates front-office some love for their transactions this season so far. Getting Fransico Liriano, Russell Martin, and trading for John Buck and most importantly Marlon Byrd. Well, time for some more lovin. Byrd delivered in his first game as a Bucco, knocking in a home-run in the 7th inning that made Twitter go literally insane with Byrd puns.

Byrd is a huge acquisition, especially since one of the top 25 players in the league against left-handed pitchers this season, which the Pirates have struggled with. Byrd now gives the Pirates three of the top 25 hitters in the league against lefties. It gives the Pirates more substance and depth into the lineup, plus the way Byrd was treated by the fans last night after his 13-pitch at-bat strikeout, I'm thinking he's going to really love it here. This ain't New York bro.

Andrew McCutchen is the MVP of the National League as long as the Pirates make the playoffs. Hands down. Cutch is in the top 10 in every single batting category other than home-runs. In his last 11 games, Cutch is actually batting .526........

How about Charlie Morton?! Morton pitched another big game again last night, picking up his sixth win of the year, and is now 6-3 on the season. Morton has now pitched at least 6 innings in his last 5 starts, only giving up 2 or less runs in each of those games. For as much hate as Morton gets on social media, I think it's time to start giving this dude mad props...Maybe some of the Root Sports Whore Cam girls can throw their panties at him.
