Pitt beats WVU. Lamar Patterson breaks through

by Emily Mallon

Lamar Patterson had a career best 11 points in last nights victory against West Virginia. Patterson has been contributing quality minutes for the Panthers recently, but his shot wasn't falling. Last night, it finally did. Pitt went on to beat WVU 71-58.

Everything worked for Pitt in their most recent victory. Gibbs shot continued to fall, Wanamaker created on offense, McGhee had strong finishes, and Robinson came back from a shaky game against St. John's to have 15 points. Gilbert Brown had a wonderful first half, but got into foul trouble in the second. Still, he made a few great post passes, scored 11 points, and played intense defense.

The only bad news for Pitt is that Talib Zanna will be out 3-6 weeks with a broken thumb. Zanna did not injure his thumb in practice or during the game, but before the game horsing around with his teammates. Luckily, this Pitt team is deep so Zanna's injury shouldn't have too much of an impact.

Pitt will face a tough Louisville team on Sunday. The Panthers are now 25-3, 13-2 in the Big East.
