lPitt ended Villanova's 46 game home winning streak last night by beating the Wildcats 57-54. Brad Wanamaker and Nasir Robinson, (both Philadelphia natives), led the offense for Pittsburgh. Wanamaker finished with 21 points while Robinson netted 15 and was part of a play resulting in a technical foul for Villanova that changed the game in Pittsburgh's favor.
Isaih Armwood hit Robinson in the face as Robinson was walking toward his teams huddle. It was intentional on Armwood's part and Robinson was mature and composed in not responding. Armwood was called for an intentional technical foul resulting in two free throws and the ball for Pitt. This started a 15-4 run for the Panthers and Villanova never regained the lead. Although the Cats did make it close in the end, the Panthers were able to hold on and walk away with the win.
This was an important week for Pitt. They were able to beat WVU and Villanova on the road without their leading scorer Ashton Gibbs. These wins show what I've suspected all season...Pitt is capable of beating any team when they play great team defense and execute on offense. This team is deep, experienced, and knows how to win.
The Panthers are now 23-2, 11-1 in the Big East. They head to South Florida on Wednesday night.
