Pittsburgh Penguins offseason with Mad Chad: Mike Rupp
Continuing with the Pittsburgh Penguins' free-agency updates, today we'll take a look at Mike Rupp. When the Penguins signed Criag Adams to a two-year extenstion, all bets were off to who they would bring back. Rupp, Max Talbot, and Tyler Kennedy are all unrestricted free-agents, with the exception of Kennedy, who is a restricted free-agent.
Rupp, would be the cheapest player out of those three. Reports are that Rupp wants around $1.5 million a year. Like I said with Talbot, that's too much. If that is too much and the Pens part ways it's a shame. Rupp has 89 points in 497 career games. He's (6-5, 230) and can play either center or win on the fourth line.
Rupp is a really gritty player that can do damage in front of the net, works great behind the net, and can be downright nasty. Rupp brings a big toughness factor to the Penguins. If the Pens allow Rupp to walk they're going to have to bring in another "goon". I'd rather keep Rupp.
