The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced a tendered contract of wide-receiver Mike Wallace. To me this is a win-win situation for the Steelers. Wallace will either remain a Steeler, keeping "Young Money" together in Pittsburgh, or he'll leave and the Steelers will get the team that signs him's first round draft pick, giving the Steelers two-first round picks this year.
Now some are saying that the Steelers won't be able to replace Wallace's production....Why not? There is no doubt that Wallace is arguably the best deep-threat in the NFL, the stats will back that up all day. Last year Wallace had a Pro Bowl season despite being double-teamed for half of the season.
Wallace is a great talent.....But he's one dimensional. Wallace is a mediocre route-runner who doesn't come up with "wow" type catches a lot. He's a one trick pony to me, all-be-it a really talented one-trick pony.
I think with some more work Antonio Brown can be a much more complete receiver than Wallace when push comes to shove. Plus the Steelers still have Emmanuel Sanders. More than likely if the Steelers lose Wallace they'll either draft a receiver in the first three rounds or sign a veteran receiver.....Randy Moss and/or Plaxico Burress both sound appealing to me. Just saying.
If the Steelers lose Wallace they'll have two first round picks which could help them address inside linebacker and offensive line. Maybe draft a receiver and another lineman in rounds two and three?
Sounds good to me.
If they keep Wallace than they'll keep one of the youngest and brightest receiving cores in the NFL together.
Either way they still have Ben so they'll be fine no matter what.
