Pirates Weekly Preview 5/7/12

Current Record: 12-16 (5.0 games back)

Upcoming Schedule
5/8 to 5/10 vs Washington
5/11 to 5/13 vs Houston

Inconsistency continued to haunt the Buccos last week.  Needless to say, losing two consecutive series' to division rivals certainly wasn't what we were all hoping for.  While Alvarez was on a roll for a while, he finished the series against Cincy with two consecutive no-hit games.  Tabata's success continues, coming off of a three-hit game Thursday against St. Louis, and two consecutive one-hit games against Cincy over the weekend.  Throughout the past 10 games, Tabata has 12 hits, 1 home run and a .293 average.  According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Buc's manager Clint Hurdle stated that McCutchen is still too unhealthy to return to the lineup for tomorrow nights game against the Nationals.

The pitching was, (as usual), sub par.  Correia gave up 9 hits in seven innings pitched, including 2 home runs during Friday's 6-1 loss to the Reds.  McDonald responded the following day in the 3-2 win, pitching six innings, while tossing 7 strikeouts.  That would be the only decent pitching performance for the Bucs of the weekend, as Charlie Morton gave up 2 home runs and suffered his third loss of the season on Sunday.

Key Players

Pedro Alvarez -  Needs to forget about the final two games vs. Cincinnati and continue to hit the ball.  Has been the Bucco's long ball guy this season with 7 home runs.

Andrew McCutchen  -  Sorry, but no McCutchen, no playoffs.  Need to get him healthy and back on the field ASAP, whatever it is that may be bothering him.
