Welcome Justin Morneau

The Pittsburgh Pirates' front-office doesn't care about winning!.......Sike! The Pirates are about to enter the month of September being 20+ games over.500 and in contention for a division title. They're also now very serious contenders for the NL pennant. They acquired Marlon Byrd from the New York Mets for basically nothing in return. Those that thought they were done got a pleasant surprise on the 31st of August, a Pittsburgh sports dream day.

The Pirates acquired Justin Morneau, sending Alex Presley and a player to be named later to the Minnesota Twins. Wait what? The Pirates, led by Bob Nutting and Neal Huntington really traded for Byrd and Morneau in the same week? Are we sure that this isn't a dream or that Ray Shero didn't get hired as the general manager of the Pirates?

Morneau coming to the Pirates is obviously the best and most exciting move that they have made during the last 21 years. Very fun time to be a Pirates fan right now. Never would I have thought a player like Morneau would get traded from a team he's played his entire career with to the Pirates, to try and win a World Series nonetheless. Just a truly awesome feeling and Pirates' fans, who have been through literal baseball Hell the last 21 years deserve all of these good things.

For those that think Morneau is washed up....He's not. In fact, he's actually been raking the ball as of late, with some pretty absurd numbers in the month of August. Check it out.

With the addition of Morneau, who is a former AL MVP , and Marlon Byrd, the Pirates can now trout out a legitimate lineup that is good enough to win a World Series with. The Pirates didn't even give up anything of value to get these guys either. Alex Presley isn't very good and he's certainly not good enough to be an everyday starter at least. Pirates certainly won't miss him.

Huntington has certainly put on his best Ray Shero impression this season, making all of the right moves, and acquiring as much talent as possible to try and win a championship. That is now more than ever a realistic goal. Props to the front-office for finally making some real strides and shutting everyone that doubted them, including me.

As for Morneau, he's a great player and leader who will help this team go as far as possible. His presence, along with Byrd, takes immense pressure off of Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez. Great trade, great times, now it's time to rock PNC Park, hopefully until late October
