Best of #Jagrwatch

pensnation.com

Well for those of you who weren't aware, yesterday most of us Pittsburgh Penguins fans were focused on #Jagrwatch. #Jagrwatch was dedicated to the possible return to the NHL and the Penguins by Jaromir Jagr. Like most, I really want to see Jagr come back to Pittsburgh as a Penguin next year.
That being said, this is #jagrwatch has become a joke. Yesterday was supposed to be decision day for Jagr. Most of us had expected Jagr to decide to sign a one-year deal with the Penguins for about $2 million. Then all hell broke loose.

Jagr's agent, Petr Svoboda, said that Jagr was expected to land in New York around 3-5pm Eastern timed, and then announce a decision a little after that. Then Svoboda said that Jagr's plane was being delayed. New York's JFK airport was experiencing problems because turtles were on the runway.

Let me repeat that again: Jagr's plane was delayed because there were turtles on the runway.

F***ing Turtles!

Then to top that off Svobdoa said that he had "no idea" where Jagr was. What? How in the hell do you lose Jagr? Where the hell could he have gone. Rivers Casino? The guys over at Pensblog even called Jagr's agent, and that whole conversation was hilarious.

After that there was no news at all. No one new Jagr's exact location and a lot of Pens' fans went to sleep disappointed. Now if Jagr signs with either the Detroit Red Wings and/or the Montreal Canadians I'm not sure if he would ever be welcomed back to the city of Pittsburgh. I'm also worried that Pens' GM Ray Shero is going to say "F-it" and give up on the Pens' former superstar winger.
You won't find a much bigger Jagr fan and supporter than me, but Jagr is leading on a die hard fanbase. To me the only person that can save all of this is Mario Lemieux. If Lemieux really wants Jagr back, Jagr will come back. Jagr loves Mario, respects Mario, looks up to him.Lemieux is now the key to #Jagrwatch.

Did Jagr and Svoboda just use #jagrwatch for negotiating leverage? Knowing Jagr I wouldn't doubt it. Now today is the new decision day. This is from Rob Rossi of the Tribune Review:
The agent for Jaromir Jagr said his client is in New York and said today he expects a decision about Jagr's NHL future by the end of today.
Petr Svoboda said he was scheduled to speak with Penguins general manager Ray Shero shortly. This was around 9:20 a.m.
"We are going to exchange some things," Svoboda said, adding that he would also speak with Detroit and Montreal about Jagr.
"This is obviously a tough decision for Jaromir. His heart is in Pittsburgh."
Shero said late Wednesday that he has not heard from Jagr's camp. Shero had set Wednesday as a deadline to hear if Jagr would accept a one-year offer from the Penguins that sources have said is within the $2 million range.
Longtime associates of Penguins majority co-owner Mario Lemieux and NHL agents told the Tribune-Review Wednesday they believe parameters of an agreement for Jagr to play next season with the Penguins are in place, and that Lemieux believes Jagr is coming back.
Jagr, 39, played his first 11 NHL seasons with the Penguins. He has played the past three seasons in Russia.

I really hope Jagr signs with the Penguins. If he doesn't a lot of Pens' fans will have their hearts torn out by Jagr for the second time. Jagr has to sign with the Penguins.

On a less serious note, here are some of the funnies tweets from #jagrwatch yesterday.

  1. Every time I think about Jagr with the Pens next year, I change my mind. I think he can still play, witness the World Cup, but he has not played an 82 game season for three years. Can he add some scoring on the PP with Crosby and Malkin feeding him the puck, or is it the case that there are not enough pucks for all three of them. I guess we will find out if he ever decides to surface and let his decision be known. Today, I want to see him in the black & gold.

  2. I think he will sign with the Pens, but I wish he wouldn't. I don't think he has enough gas in the tank to get through an entire season and still have an impact in the playoffs. Maybe if they give him off from December through February and then he comes back for March, April and the playoffs.

  3. Pens want Jagr for a net front presence. It's something they haven't had since Ryan Malone left town. He'll be a decent goal scorer because they're going to send him straight to the net.

  4. you really think with his age, health risks he will be there...I don't think so friend.....Rupp or Kunitz is destined to be there
he will be by the net, but not in front

  5. jagr wouldn't be a net presence. he would just be another piece to our powerplay. staal or kunitz will be in front of the net. what people dont realize is, we don't need him to be a superstar. all we need him to do is factor in on some goals on the pp and maybe put 50 points up. neal, malkin, kunitz, and crosby will put points up. staal, jagr, kennedy, dupuis, letestu are the people we need to put up secondary scoring.
