TORONTO - Jaromir Jagr could be ending his storied NHL career in the city where it all started.
Penguins general manager Ray Shero told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday that the club has offered the free-agent right-winger a one-year contract, and expects to hear Wednesday whether Jagr will accept it.1.bp.blogspot.com |

TORONTO - Jaromir Jagr could be ending his storied NHL career in the city where it all started.
"We feel from the information we have and after seeing at world championships, that he's a guy who might be able to help us this coming season," Shero said. "We feel he's a guy who could help us this year, and retire as a Penguin."
"Tomorrow is decision day," Shero added.
Jagr cannot sign with a team until Friday when free agency opens. The Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens are also reported to be interested in Jagr's services.
The 39-year-old native of Kladno, Czech Republic, is the ninth-highest scorer in NHL history with 646 goals and 953 assists for 1,599 points over 17 seasons.
He was drafted by the Penguins with the fifth pick in the 1990 NHL draft and helped the team win two Stanley Cups. He led the league in scoring five times and is a seven-time all-star.
He has spent the last three seasons with Omsk Avangard of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.
So it looks like #Jagrwatch is coming to an end today. What a journey it has been. One of, if not the most exciting off-season’s in Pittsburgh Penguins history. Jaromir Jagr, the second best player in Penguins history is going to come back for another season, to try and help the Penguins capture their franchises fourth Stanley Cup and his third.
Now not everyone is excited about this but I question as to whether or not you have a soul if you're not. Jagr still has a lot left. A lot more than Alexie Kovalev, Bill Guerin, and Mark Recchi. Jagr can still produce. Throw him on a line with Evgeni Malkin and/or Sidney Crosby, and he'll give you top two line production.
With Jagr coming back the Penguins will have the deepest and most talented team in the NHL. Pardon my bias, but that’s the damn truth. The question now comes to will Jagr accept the fact that Crosby and Malkin come first. Will Jagr accept the fact that it’s not all about him? I say yes.
Jagr respects Crosby’s game. Jagr had no problem playing under Mario Lemieux. In fact he liked it. Now at 39, Jagr will like the fact that Crosby and Malkin get more attention. Jagr wants to win another cup and prove that he can still play.
To be honest this is like a dream. I’m getting goose bumps thinking about the upcoming season. If the Penguins can stay healthy they will not only be the best team in the league, but the most exciting as well.
Shero has his plans, one with Jagr, one w/o him. At noon tomorrow, if Jagr isn't signed, he is immediately going to the next plan.
ReplyDeleteAll this dragging along and all the crap going on is only going to hurt Jagr's legacy further here if he doesn't sign now.
If he picked another team yesterday when his agent said he'd make a decision, I think little would be thought of this. But now that this is a circus, and even bigger spectacle than it was just 48 hrs ago, there are going to be a lot of upset fans in Pgh.
This isn't hurting the Pens one bit. It is only going to further tarnish Jagr's legacy here though.
