Alvarez, Tabata and Walker stay hot in 10-7 loss to Cards

A below average outing from Charlie Morton mixed with sloppy defense was a recipe for disaster as the Pirates fell 10-7 to division rival St Louis on Tuesday night. Morton, who came in to the game allowing only 5 earned runs in his first 3 starts, was shelled for 5 earned in 4.1 innings. 

The defense was a no-show accounting for 3 unearned runs on 4 errors. Falling to 10-13 the Pirates will need to win 2 in a row to take the series.

Big Ben, Rookie OL Decastro Sending Mixed Signals Already

As it has been widely publicised over the past few days, the first call between newly acquired OL David Decastro and Big Ben was anything but usual. The veteran QB placed the call to Decastro as an introductory call to the Steelers. Thinking it was a secretary, Decastro has been quoted asking Ben, "Did you get those flight plans?". 

Pirates Crack 5 Runs, Edge Braves 9-3

The record books will stay closed for now. Almost thirty years ago the Milwaukee Brewers set a major league record by scoring 5 or less runs in their first 31 games. 

The Buccos needed only 22 games for such an accomplishment. With a 9-3 win at Atlanta last night there is signs of life in the bats of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After a pair of 2 run home runs from Pedro Alvarez and Yamaico Navarro, Pirate fans can breathe a sigh of relief for the first time all season. 

James Mcdonald rebounded nicely after allowing a first inning home run to pitch a solid 7.2 innings. Every batter in the starting lineup had at least one hit (yes that includes Rod Barajas who went 1-3 with a run scored on the day) as the Buccos were all smiles in the dugout Monday Night. Will this be the spark they've waiting for all season? Only time can tell, but you have to be anxious to see what Pedro and the Pirates will do next.

I'm excited for Alvarez and his future, which considering how it was looking earlier, is a great great thing.
